Grandchildren of music superstars pay tribute to their famous relatives
The Jensen Community Center in Amherst is excited to present Twitty & Lynn: A Salute to Conway & Loretta, featuring their grandchildren, Tre Twitty and Tayla Lynn, on Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m. A social hour begins at 6 p.m., with small bites from Grit & Grace Family Restaurant and a cash bar.
At the start of every show, Tre and Tayla share a glance during “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” that brings the electrifying chemistry of their grandparents to life.
Tre said, “Fans have told Tayla and me that when they see us onstage, they think, ‘Wow, there must be something genetic in those two families.’ It validates the experience of the concert for them. We’re telling our grandparents’ story through our story.”
Rather than impersonating Conway and Loretta, Tre and Tayla celebrate their music, the lost art of duet singing, and the beloved icons they call “Poppy” and “Memaw.” They’re not just performing; they’re carrying on their legacy, sharing their passion for family and country music.
In 2018, after Tayla witnessed Tre performing Conway’s songs, they teamed up and began touring. Their show has since gained popularity, including a debut at the Grand Ole Opry in 2022. Their set includes Conway and Loretta’s iconic hits like “After the Fire Is Gone” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” along with their own original songs.
Tre said, “Conway has been gone 30 years. Had Poppy lived, I think there would have been a great second act for him and Loretta. We’re letting people hear those songs again.”
The duo is also recording new music, with an album featuring originals and covers. Tayla, the chief songwriter, is inspired by the Seventies style of Conway and Loretta, and their songs reflect that.
Their performances are filled with genuine emotion, with Tayla even sharing her personal story of sobriety. Tre is also working to get Conway inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, while Tayla honors Loretta’s legacy by wearing her grandmother’s outfits onstage.
Tre said, “Our show gives people an idea of what Loretta and Conway were like through our grandchildren’s eyes. It’s a special gift to keep that flame burning.”
