Seven letters spell Scrabble success, set record at Jensen Center

By Marsha G. Haynes

One of the Scrabble players who comes to the Jensen Community Center on Thursdays at 1 p.m. to play the game, Betty Caldwell of Amherst, set a personal and all-time record May 26.

She made her first-ever seven-letter word. This netted her a 50-point bonus. Her word, “scenting,” also reached a triple word space, for a total of 83 word points.

Betty’s play (with no letters left in the bag) caused the end of game for all of us. Her impressive play and final game score of 206 was more than double any of our scores.

The other players that day were George Hollenbeck (pictured), Marsha Haynes, Dotty Vaughn, and Carol Romundson. Congratulations, Betty!
