Amherst Business Park acquires new tenant

Visitors to Amherst’s Business Park this summer have no doubt noticed new construction in the lot north of Central Waters Brewing Company. The latest addition to the Park is Legacy Steel. The firm’s parent company, Legacy Platform, is based in Milwaukee with a primary focus on the sales, design, engineering, and administrative sides of the overall business. After a lengthy search, the company chose the Amherst location and broke ground on a nearly 45,000 square-foot facility with a target opening set for the first week of March 2023.

Plant Manager John Bella told the Spirit, “The business is an important next phase as part of a growing business that started in 2020 to service a wide variety of customers in the industrial, distribution, and manufacturing sectors.”

Bella added that the Amherst location will focus more closely on some of the smaller steel projects that fall within these larger buildings, servicing an area that hasn’t had much direct attention historically. “These include industrial handrailing and stair systems with the occasional catwalk or crossover as needed for customers,” he said. “In addition, our powder coat line will be available to finish fabricated parts for other shops in the area that either don’t have that capability now or have to send it much further away to get finished.

“Initially, Legacy Steel will employ nearly a dozen people. Given the ideal location within the Fox Valley, our expectation is that we will continue to draw from the local workforce and technical college in the coming years and grow to around 20 in this facility at its current size. As our business continues to grow, we have the ability to double the size of our plant within the current lot, meaning we will call Amherst home for a very long time.”
